5 Key ideas to make a good Gin Tonic
Who has not tried a Gin Tonic at least once in a lifetime? It is one of the drinks that reminds us most of summertime. The ingredients and the preparation must be very careful. That’s why, from Ice Tech we have 5 keys to make it a success.
5 key ideas to make a good Gin Tonic
The Gin Tonic is a cluster of good sensations for the palate, but only when its well prepared 🙂 What do you have to keep in mind?
1. The Tonic
The first thing you have to keep in mind is that the tonic should be very cold. There are different brands. You can choose the one you want, but you will not go wrong with the ones described below.
- Schweppes: the most famous and common one. However, this tonic adds some make up on the flavour of gin, mitigating the aromas of the best gins and improving those that are worse.
- Fever Tree: unlike the previous one, it respects the character and the intensity of the gin, allowing us to perfectly taste the citrus flavour and the spices of the cocktail.
- Fentimann’s: it is a tonic of delicate bubbles, elaborated according to artisan methods and that has the peculiarity to incorporate a small alcoholic volume: 0.5 ºC
- Q tonic: it is the most exclusive one among tonics, it uses on its preparation an authentic Peruvian quinine and is sweetened with organic agave.
2. The ice
Of course we were going to talk about ice! It is good that the water is deionized, demineralised and decalcified, but if it is not, there is no problem. The most important thing is that the ice does not contain the bad odours of the freezer, that it is transparent and, above all, that it is very very cold. You know which one we’re going to recommend, right? In Ice Tech we have the SK variety, ideal for premium drinks and perfect for gin tonics…
3. Gin
We have selected three of the infinite gins that exist:
- Martin Miller Westbourne: for us, it is the coolest, most complex and disturbing among gins. It is formed by two pieces of solid copper made in 1903 by the best craftsman of the time: John Dore & Co. One of its secrets is that it takes advantage of the heart of the second distillation, something unheard of in the world of distillation. After this, travel to Iceland where it is mixed with demineralized water from the glaciers. It couldn’t be purest!
- Brecon: with a very British flavour. It is characterized by being subtlety personified. Its name is due to its origin, the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. It is, undoubtedly, one of the most appropriate gins for this summer.
- Tanqueray Ten: the most delicate gin. It is the best option if what we are looking for is that it helps us to do the digestion after a heavy meal. It is subjected to more than four distillations, so it is very neutral.
You can also opt for other “Premium” gins such as Brooksman, Hendrick’s, Citadelle, Magellan, Bulldog, Junipero or Berkeley Square.
A trick to make the gin always at its point is to keep it in the freezer.
4. Citrus fruits
Like the previous ones, it is very important that the citruses that are going to be used are very cold. Besides, it’s great if we’ve just picked them up from the tree.
For the Gin Tonic, it will be more than enough with a lemon or a lime peel, always removing the white part of the peel that is bitter.
NEVER put squeezed lime or lemon.
5. The glass
The glass has to be made up of fine glass and the most advisable form is the one that is used to taste Merlot grape reds, since its shape helps to retain the citric aromas of our Gin Tonic.
How to make a good Gin Tonic?
- 5 or 6 Ice cubes must be served in the glass and we must move them to cool them.
- We serve the gin (the amount depends on the type and the moment of taking it).
- Slice a large slice of lemon peel into the ice while the gin falls.
- Take out a piece and cut another one. Now, without the white part so that it is not bitter, and we put it in the cup.
- Finally, we serve the tonic by sliding it on the ice very slowly so it doesn’t lose the bubble.
Finally, we only have to serve it and enjoy the sensations that come out from a good Gin Tonic ;). Do you dare to do it?
