Filmastic Cocktails: Vesper, a 007 cocktail
Waiter, a Martini with Vodka “shaken, not stirred”. Those are the exact words you’ll have to tell any bartender if you want to try a Vesper cocktail. And who does not know the James Bond series of films? They are the biggest film series ever. In spite of its succession of actors, the essence of the film remains like the first day. From Ice Tech, we would like to tell you the story of this “long, powerful and well prepared drink”.
The history of the cocktail goes back to 1953, when this character of fiction asks the waiter a unique drink invented by himself:
- “A dry martini,” he said. “One. In a glass of champagne”
- “Oui, monsieur“
- “Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, a half of Kina Lillet. Shake it well until it’s frozen; Then, add a lemon peel. Did you write it down?”
- “Of course, monsieur” The waiter seemed pleased with the recipe.
- “Oh my… It is very strong” replied Leiter.
- Bond laughed. “When I have … this… to arrange” he explained, “I never drink more than a glass before dinner. But I like that the only one I take to be long, powerful and well prepared. I do not like small glasses and they are also poorly made. This is my own invention and I am thinking of naming and patenting it. “
He was the one who baptized this same drink as Vesper, honouring the female protagonist that accompanied him in Casino Royale.
In order to prepare it, you will need:
- 30 ml (1 ounce) of Gordon’s gin.
- 15 ml (1/2 ounce) of Gilbey vodka.
- 7.5 ml (1/4 ounce) of Lillet Blanc.
- Between 5 and 10 drops of quinine.
- Ice Tech Ice.
The preparation is more than easy:
In a cocktail shaker, add the Ice Tech ice together with the gin, the vodka, the Lillet Blanc and quinine tea. Once it’s well shaken, simply serve it in a glass of champagne and decorate it with the lime.
Dare to make yours 😉
