In the Italian town of Arezzo, "life is beautiful"

Who doesn’t remember the movie Life is Beautiful? Roberto Benigni shrugged our hearts with this sad as well as beautiful Italian film. From Ice Tech we want to transport you to some movie towns. Today we start with Arezzo, the Life is Beautiful Italian town.

This film has possibly marked a time. Roberto Benigni was able to touch us in each of the scenes. We laughed and we cried in equal parts. The “Good morning princess” of the protagonist is already part of the most representative phrases of cinema.

The province of Arezzo is located in the eastern part of the Tuscany. Only with this data, would understand is a safe bet. It is surrounded by the Apennine Mountains, which ensures a landscape worthy of a postcard. The natural beauty of its landscapes blends harmoniously with the Atrezzo historical testimonies and its works of art.

Most of the exterior scenes of Life is Beautiful were filmed in the historic centre of the city.

What to see in Arezzo?

Piazza Grande

It is the Plaza Mayor of Arezzo. Many of the scenes of the movie were filmed in this square. Do you remember Guido’s bike ride with his wife and son? What a mythical scene!

This Plaza exudes happiness, fun and optimism, three of the virtues of the protagonist of the movie.

We recommend that you visit its antique market. It is celebrated on the last Saturday and the first Sunday of each month.

La Pieve di Santa María

The Pieve di Santa María is a jewel of the Tuscan Romanesque. Built between the 12lo9 and 14th centuries, its façade is richly decorated with sculptures and bas-reliefs. The truth is that its façade seems incredible, using arcs of different sizes and levels. In fact, its tower, built in 1330, is known as the Tower of the Hundred Holes.

Casa di Petrarca

Petrarca is considered to be one of the promoters of the Tuscan dialect. A well-known Italian poet was born there in 1304. They say that this house was damaged by the Allied bombing in the Second World War. Today it is the headquarter of the Academy of Letters, Arts and Sciences. We can visit the library with incunabula and copies of the works.
