5 Things you should not miss of Iceland

5 Things you should not miss of Iceland

Iceland is fashionable. We’ve all enjoyed its football team in this European Cup. Surely you already know the celebration of the Icelandic selection with its supporters. Football has brought the Vikings country on the map. We already loved it, but now more than ever we would like to tell you 5 things you should not miss about this ice paradise.

Of course, we always have Skyscanner that reveals the best wonders of the world. Take note!

1. A bath in a natural pool.

In each of the towns in Iceland there is an outdoor hot water municipal swimming pool. It is the paradise of Icelanders when the weather is not. The Myvatn thermal baths and the Blue Lagoon are the best-known ones, but you can find a natural pool to take a dip. This is so real! One of the most emblematic one is Landmannalaugar, which can only be reached using a 4×4 after traversing a moonscape. The sacrifice is worth it: bathing in the valley with hot water gushing from the rocks.

2. Waterfalls everywhere

Dettifoss is the largest waterfall in Europe, or so they say.

Skógafoss is long, wide and surrounded by green moss. The perfect waterfall!

Seljalandsfoss is the most fascinating one. You can walk behind the water!

And we could go on and on. In Iceland there are waterfalls almost in every corner, and each one is more and more beautiful.

3. Walking along the edge of a glacier

You can choose. The main road passes next to these huge ice masses in the south of Iceland. It is, in our opinion, the most striking image of the country. The so-called ice tongues descend from the mountains and go directly to die into the sea.

4. Observing seals and whales

The best place to watch seals is in the north of the country. On the Vatnsnes peninsula, one of the smallest peninsulas in the north of the island, there are several black beaches where groups of seals rest quietly. You can walk up there and hopefully see them standing on top of the rocks.

If you also want to see the whales, you have to go to Husavik, also in the north. If you are lucky and the sea is calm, whales will greet you with their fins. If they’re in good mood, they’ll even provide a jump. All of this with the fjords as the background image of this spectacular setting.

 5. Houselights are orange

Make a mental picture: green mountains, blue sea and orange houselights. A beautiful landscape, right? Why orange? Because it makes little sense to put white houselights in a country where it is almost always snowing! 😉
