5 essential places to visit in Salento
Salento is a charming region in southern Italy. Its beautiful beaches have nothing to envy to the Caribbean ones. All their cities are bordered by the sea, which makes this region of Puglia one of the most beautiful ones in the world. If you’re still not convinced, from Ice Tech we would like to show you 5 famous destinations in Salento.
There is a Salentino dialect that states: “lu sule, lu mare, lu ientu“ (sun, sea and wind). Almost all of its territory is bathed by the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea. Its inhabitants are lovely people who are always willing to show the best of the region.
Lecce
Would you like to see a mini Florence? Salento has as much history as Florence. If you want to feel like you’re at the time of the Romans, do not miss it. It has an amphitheatre from the first century A.C. and a beautiful 12th century church in the centre of the Piazza del Duomo. If you visit it at night you will like it even more, because it glows in green colour.
Otranto
Surely, it is the most beautiful Adriatic coastal town in the Salento area. It has a great promenade and a rocky coastline that will leave you open-mouthed. The colour of the sea surrounding the city welcomes you. Do not leave without strolling through the old town. It looks like a maze!
Ponte del Ciolo
A wonderful place in Santa Maria di Leuca. Bathed by the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, in this white town you can enjoy rocky and sandy beaches. A landmark of Santa Maria de Leuca is the lighthouse at the top of the mountain. If you want to have the best pictures of the Mediterranean, you must go there. You also have another mandatory stop: Ponte del Ciolo. A bathing area under a bridge and crystal clear waters.
Gallipoli
Called “the pearl of the Ionian Sea” is the most famous city in the region of Salento. Its beaches are acclimated all day and do not lack of music and animation. It is the favourite beach for young people. Moreover, it is the perfect beach to take one of our Ice Tech cocktails with M ice cubes listening to some music and the rhythm of the waves! Of course, you can walk along its long promenade and eat at one of the many restaurants that the island has.
Porto Badisco
This beach has been named by the Daily Telegraph as the most beautiful of all Puglia. It was cited by Virgil when Aeneas fled from Troy. Located in a heavenly enclave, it has been awarded with the 5 Vele di Legambiente.
Happy holidays!
