Grasshopper Cocktail, a very refreshing insect

Grasshopper Cocktail, a very refreshing insect

In the middle of August, we continue talking about exotic cocktails. From Ice Tech we bring another cocktail that, although its colour and name make it unappetizing, has a flavour that makes it unique. Would you drink a cocktail called grasshopper? We recommend you to do it. Today we tell you all about the Grasshopper, a cocktail whose variations are endless.

Its origin is located in New Orleans, specifically in the Tujague’s restaurant, which still offers its services today. However, its origin is not directly linked to the American culture, because the neighbourhood where the restaurant is located is popularly known as the French Quarter, so the origin of the Grasshopper may be French.

Its creator was Philibert Guichet, who proposed this recipe on a cocktail contest in New York. And it was not completely bad, because it was awarded with the second position.

It is a cocktail whose preparation is very simple, in addition to having a lot of variants, making it appropriate to take it on St. Patrick’s Day (because of its colour, of course 😉 ).

Grasshopper cocktail

Grasshopper cocktail ingredients:

  • 45ml of mint cream
  • 30ml of white cocoa cream
  • 60ml of liquid cream
  • 1 cherry
  • Fresh mint
  • SS Ice Tech Ice Cubes

Preparation:

For its preparation, we first mix all the ingredients in the shaker and we shake it well. Then we serve it in a glass that, as always, must be previously frozen and, after this, we decorate it with the cherry and the fresh mint leaves. Simple, right?

As far as the variants of the Grasshopper, it is possible to emphasize the following:

  • Flying Grasshopper: replacing the liquid cream or milk cream by vodka. This will give you a taste that only the brave will resist.
  • Coffeee Grasshopper: Goodbye cacao cream. Hello coffee cream, the best ally to endure all night ;).
  • Grasshopper ice cream: in this case nothing is substituted, but a part of vanilla ice cream is added.
