The Panna cotta, the Italian dessert that we like the most
Panna cotta means cooked cream, so you can already get an idea of the main ingredient of this dessert. Maybe the Italian dessert by reference is the tiramisu, but we want to tell you why the panna cotta is the dessert that children and adults like the most.
This sweet is typical of the Piedmont region. Its texture is similar to that of crème caramel, but it doesn’t contain egg. The most traditional way of doing it is based on milk, cream and sugar. The most common additional ingredient used to garnish it are red fruits and jam.
We confess that in Ice Tech we have tried it of many different ways: with cheese, with chocolate, with caramel, with vanilla… We love it, but the way we like it is with red fruits… That citrus flavour that stays on the palate, mixed with the softness of the texture of the Panna cotta, make this Italian dessert become our favourite one.
It’s very easy to make and it’s a great dessert if you have guests at home. Of course, you have to leave prepared 3-4 hours in advance. Take note:
Ingredients to prepare a Panna cotta (for 4 people):
- 1/2 l of liquid cream
- 125 ml of milk
- 4 sheets of gelatine
- 50 g of sugar
- 1 vanilla limb (optional) or vanilla sugar.
Preparation
Put the gelatine leaves in a container with cold water for 10 minutes.
On the other hand, add the cream, milk and vanilla in a pot and put it on the fire until it boils. When it boils, lower the heat and let it cook for 5 more minutes, stirring it well so that it doesn’t stick.
Remove the pot from the heat and add the gelatine plates and the sugar. Stir it until they have completely dissolved.
When we have the mixture, distribute it in 4 different dessert containers and let them cool. When it is no longer hot, put the Panna cotta in the fridge for at least 3 hours.
Do not forget the red fruits when you serve them! We recommend you to make a sauce with them in order to serve them. You can put them in a pot for 10 minutes with some sugar, until they turn into a sauce.
