Cocktails, the great Italian charm
Do you remember how to prepare a Spritz? Well, today we are going to explain how to prepare another cocktail par excellence: the American. Our drinks are part of the charm of Italy and from Ice Tech we want you to know a little of its origins and its history.
The American cocktail is not very American. Is an Italian cocktail made with two characteristic ingredients of our country: Vermouth and Bitter Campari. Do they sound familiar? The American cocktail was not always named that way. Its creator called this drink “Milano-Torino”, as its two main ingredients were prepared this way: one in Milan and one in Turin, two cities twinned by the cocktail.
There was a time in the United States in which the Prohibition Act prevailed and alcohol consumption was forbidden. During that time, many Americans travelled to Europe on vacation, especially to Italy. Many times, they came to our country in order to drink and enjoy cocktails with alcohol. It was on the Italian coast where they began to know and enjoy the “Milano-Torino” cocktail and it quickly became one of their favourite drinks. Very soon Italians began to call this drink the cocktail of Americans, hence the change of Milano-Torino to American cocktail.
Preparing this cocktail is very easy. We only need to:
- Merge it into a cocktail glass.
- Add the Italian sweet Vermouth.
- Add the bitters.
- Do not forget to add three or four Ice Tech ice cubes.
- Briefly stir and fill the glass to the top with soda.
- Add a slice of orange and a straw.
- Enjoy it!
