5 ideal Italian destinations to live the Holy Week in Italy
The Holy Week is getting closer and what better way to live it than traveling to our beloved Italy. It is a unique event from north to south, so in Ice Tech we haven’t been able to choose just one. Would you like to know which 5 destinations have been chosen? 😉
Bormio, Sondrio.
Located in the north of Italy, specifically in Lombardy. There, a real rite is celebrated for the arrival of spring (Pascuali), in which, in addition to the different competitions between neighbourhoods, 5 lambs are blessed. You’ve never seen anything like this!
Urbania, Pesaro.
In the north-central part of Italy we can find Urbania, a small Italian town where the Holy Week is very peculiar. There are celebrations like the Sagra and il Palio dell’uovo with games, battles, float parades and the Punta e cul, which is inspired by the old peasant traditions. If you travel here, you will not be able to resist to try one of the most famous chocolate eggs. They are delicious!
Florence.
This region is characteristic for its Scoppio del Carro, a show that goes back to the times of the first crusade. A carriage drawn by white oxen from the Prato square to the Florence Cathedral, and a “pigeon” (a wick in the shape and colour of the animal) lights the fireworks in the cart.
Procida and Ischia, the islands of the Naples Gulf
In these islands, the celebrations are more traditional. In particular, in Isquia the Corsa dell’Angelo a representation of the moment of the encounter between the Virgin and her Resurrected son takes place. It is a show that goes back to the 18th Century, so you can imagine how fascinating it is to see it.
Rome, the favourite destination for Easter.
If you want to live a 100% Holy Week, you can not avoid attending to the impressive Via Crucis and the Holy Mass on the Easter Sunday in the framework of St. Peter’s in Rome. You’ll be speechless.
