Alberobello.

Probably this name doesn’t ring a bell, but it is one of the 51 Italian places included by UNESCO in the World Heritage List thanks to its “trullos” (slammers).

The birth of the slammers goes back to the time of prehistory where, in the Itria Valley, settlements and constructions were given, which in most cases were used to bury the deceased ones. Its name means dome and refers to these old constrictions with conical shapes made of dry stone and painted in white colour.

Currently, the oldest ones are in Alberobello (14th Century) and are 100% habitable. A good example may be the neighbourhood of Monti, where these constructions abound. Such is the importance of these constructions that even the town church is formed by them.
