The Zuccotto, a frozen finger-licking dessert

If there is anything that Italians love, apart from a good cocktail with Ice Tech ice, it is to accompany it with a rich Italian dessert 😉

From Florence, the Zuccotto has a very peculiar shape, which has been questioned for years. Is it a pumpkin or Fillipo Brunelleschi’s dome? Anyway, it is a delicious dessert that will make you lick your fingers.

The Zuccotto was originally done with a dome-shaped cake coated with chocolate syrup and powdered sugar. However, it has changed over the years, as it has undergone a complete transformation: nowadays it is an ice-cream! You will not find it out until you try it, since it is covered under a cake dome.

How to do it

Cooking it is not simple, especially if it is your first Zuccotto. Firstly, you must place a layer of sponge cake in a spring form pan and fill in the centre with ice-cream and fruit. Secondly, put it in the freezer to harden.

After a few hours, you should put it on a plate and cover it with chocolate, fruit and nuts. You can also put, as an option, chocolate chips and a splash of brandy in order to give more flavour.

This dessert is usually taken after dinner, even as a refreshing appetizer. In fact, it is traditional to eat it after a good plate of pasta and wine.
