Just by reading its name it seems that something is going to explode. The Bombardino is a drink that warms the coldest. It is the cocktail Italians use to regain strength on the ski slopes or when shopping at the Christmas markets.

What’s the Bombardino?

The Bombardino is a powerful Italian cocktail for winter time, made with punch and brandy or rum. Punch is a creamy liquor, made with sugar, eggs and alcohol.

You may imagine why it is called Bombardino, right? It is a powerful combination of alcohol and heat that we can compare with a bomb.

If you do not like brandy, you can have it with rum, and if you prefer not to drink so much alcohol, you should drink coffee instead. The coffee version is called Calimero.

Ingredients:

Bombardino

  • 1 part with rum or brandy
  • 1 part of homemade punch
  • Whipped sweet cream

Calimero

  • 1 part with rum or brandy
  • 1 part of homemade punch
  • 1 part with espresso
  • Whipped sweet cream

Punch

  • 4 egg yolks
  • ⅓ cup (65g) of sugar
  • 2 cups of whole milk
  • 1 cup of cream
  • 175 ml of brandy
  • 4 egg whites

Preparation:

Bombardino and Calimero

Heat the punch and the rum or the brandy in a small saucepan, cover it with sweet cream and serve it. The Calimero should be prepared the same way, but you should substitute rum or brandy for coffee.

Punch

  • Whip the egg yolks until they are white.
  • Gradually add ⅓ cup of sugar and continue whipping it until it is completely dissolved.
  • Add milk, cream and brandy and pour it in another bowl.
  • Whip the egg whites slowly.
  • With the blender still working, gradually add 1 tablespoon of sugar and whip it until some peaks are formed.
